In each of those scenes, we come to know Joseph as a happy and positive person. Each time he makes a new garment, we see him going out into the world doing some exciting things. We see him be creative on each page as to how he is going to craft a new garment out of an old and worn one. Joseph is the sole character that we meet in this story.
This pattern continues until Joseph is left with nothing! When that garment gets old and worn, he makes something else.
However, the overcoat gets old and worn so Joseph makes it into a smaller garment. The story began by introducing Joseph and his overcoat.
